Password Protection Policy

Passwords are an important aspect of computer security. A poorly chosen password may result in unauthorized access and/or exploitation of our resources. All staff and Students with access to Maribyrnong college systems, are responsible for taking the appropriate steps, as outlined below, to select and secure their passwords.

Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to establish a standard for creation of strong passwords and the protection of those passwords.

Policy

  • All user-level and system-level passwords must conform to the Password Construction Guidelines
  • Users must use a separate, unique password for each of their work-related accounts.
  • Passwords should be changed when there is the reason to believe a password has been compromised.
  •  Not interfere with network security, the data of another user or attempt to log into the network with a username or password of another student
  • The student does not allow to reveal the password to anyone except the system administrator or classroom teachers.
  • Your password must be different from your last 2 passwords
  • Your password must not contain your UserID, first name or last name
  • Passwords have a minimum age of 24 hours
  • You must not share your UserID and password with a third party
  • You must not write down your password and leave in a place where it could be easily found
  • You must take care when typing your passwords if they are being observed
  • You must change your password if they suspect that someone else knows it
